REPAIR AND FILLING

SCREENPRINT

This work exhibited damages including losses, tears, heavy red tape attached to the verso and a detached right hand corner.

The thin and fragile nature of the paper required careful handling and a sensitive treatment approach.

Work undertaken included surface cleaning with chemical sponge, removal of the tape, tear repair and infilling of losses. Repair was undertaken with wheat starch paste and japanese tissue, with special care being taken to use the correct viscosity of adhesive in order to prevent any surface creasing in such delicate paper.

A suitable infill paper similar in weight and surface characteristics was chosen and toned to complete sympathetic and discrete infills.
